Marathon Week 7, Day 7 - Recovery From Injury
The reason for the lack of posts over the last week and a half: on Tuesday (Week 6, Day 2) following the 5k/5k run that went so well for Tommie and me, I strained a muscle in the back of my left leg, possibly the distal end of the semitendinosus. After nearly two weeks of rest, icing, and massage, during which time I was able to continue with CrossFit and O-lift workouts, I gave my legs their first running test today in a 1-3-1 workout of one mile at "easy" pace, three miles at "mid tempo" and one final mile at the easy pace again. Jeff planned a course for us that went from the middle school, around Arcadia County Park, and back to the middle school.
My targeted time for the mid-tempo part was 21:30. I was able to complete it in about 20:50, and my legs felt well enough for that entire section. In a surprise, some spots in my leg started to twinge on the final mile of easy-pace running. Patient stretching at the finish line and icing at home have the legs feeling pretty good right now, so I think I will try the 10 X 400m speed work coming up on Wednesday.

I am such a bad blogger! I have been working out, but school just started, so my available time to post is much diminished! :-(
