We intended to do Hike 29 (“Bear Canyon Traverse”) from Trails of the Angeles<\/a>, but weather and icy pavement closed Mt Wilson Road today. Rather than adding 2.4 miles of road walking to get to the trailhead, we improvised by going west from Red Box on the Gabrielino Trail to Switzer’s Picnic Area and then down to the falls. The trip from the picnic area to the falls is actually Hike 13 of the book. We took two cars, leaving Beth’s at Switzer’s and riding together in mine to Red Box to start the hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of the outing, we drove through lots of fog to retrieve my car from Red Box, finding a little bit of snow settled on the windshield wipers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
